MELISA® is the registered trademark of MELISA MEDICA FOUNDATION MELISA stands for "Memory Lymphocyte Immunostimulation Assay", an "in vitro" test for metal allergy. What MELISA provides is a reliable, objective means for determining individual immune system sensitivity to specific metals, and metal compounds. Mercuric compounds such as phenylmercury and thimerosal are commonly used as preservatives in vaccines, root fillings, contact lense solutions, nose drops, and other preparations. It is now known that a subset of the population develops memory lymphocytes specific to these and other metal compounds. Being injected with such a compound when one is immune sensitized can cause severe complications ranging from unexplained fatigue to anaphylactic shock, and even death. This information is a critical missing piece in understanding a likely pathology of Gulf War Syndrome, "amalgam disease", CFIDS , and autoimmune conditions. Below you will find a journal reference regarding work done with the MELISA test. We have created a graph from the authors published data to better visualize the study results.
